Interesting thanks for the info. Is it ok to clean it just like regular paint? I usually use Meguiars detailing spray. Also is claybar safe?

The resin they use to cure CF is almost twice as hard as a clear coat for paint. So I won't really understand why you would need to clay bar it? But be careful using a buffer, it will show any blemishes from the heat, so just move around quick...

And as for the detailing spray you use it's pretty good stuff I use it on my tool box, but for the first couple of washes I would use an actual wax (carnauba "Natural" or synthetic "Polymer") doesn't matter just a liquid or paste wax.

Preserve that shine man.

Yeah you can clean it just like the rest of the car, but over time the carbon fiber will fade if you don't keep it waxed good.

its not the carbon fiber that fades its the clearcoat, hence why i tell 90% of the people that get a cf hood to put an extra coat of clear on it.

now if your saying the actual carbon fiber fade i'm not so sure about this, because automotice paints these days including clear should contain a anti UV chemical. so if the car has been cleared from vis with a clear coat it should be fine.

Most aftermarket makers of cf products only shoot one layer of clear which is ok as long as you keep it waxed but if not it is not enough UV protection to keep the cf from fading over time. Usually the resin will start to yellow though long before the actual fabric fades.

An extra coat of clear is never a bad idea.

shouldn't cost you much either, most paint shops probably wouldn't even charge you more than just the clear itself for something so small.

me on the other hand i'll be having the sides of an oem hood painted to match the car so i'll have several coats of imp blue on the sides and a few coats of clear over the full hood.
