Question Road trip (route 66)

I'm planning on taking a trip down route 66 (Chicago to los angeles) and was wondering if any one had any suggestions on where to stop what to check out and if any LCN members wanted a visit from the ol' duff man. I'm not sure if I'm gunna take route 66 back home (minnesota) or not yet. If anyone has any suggestions let me know they'll be greatly appreciated.

This is what I have so far....
-cadillac ranch
-hoover dam
-wig-wag motels
-atelope canyon
-grand canyon
-The gateway arch

Oh yeah, I'll have 8 days for driving and I'll be driving leah (my name for my cobalt)

If you are into history at all stop in Springfield, IL and see the Lincoln Library. It's pretty cool because it's history but it's kind of hi tech at the same time. Also I could try to meet you there or STL if my schedule permitted. You definite have to stop and go up in the Arch.

I don't know which route you are taking through STL, if you plan to follow old 66 or not but if you are taking the interstate I64 is closed for two years so you will have to take 70 to get east and west through town.

I really haven't looked into specifics yet but. I know I'm going and going soon! If you say it's worth it then I'll definatly check it out! I'll let you know when I go and hopefully we can meet up (I'd love to see your car and all the custom carbon fiber parts).

I've wanted to go since last year and am really excited about this trip. This may sound kind of stupid but the whole idea came to me after watching cars (the movie). I've always told myself that I never wanna leave home but after watching that movie I totally changed my mind and have been on 3 road trips since then, everyone of them, I just told myself I wanna go somewhere this weekend. So I packed up and left (honestly I think those are the best kinds of road trips).

Yeah they are. I love going places, but it's always nice to come home too. Another great road trip is going out to Mt Rushmore and Devils Tower WY. It's one I want to take soon. I went when I was in high school and it was the best vacation I've been on, but then again I'm really into natural sceanary and stuff.

I have an open mind when it comes to nature and man made stuctures. I just like to see/try new stuff and get away for some time to think about my life and the people in it. I'm so close to mt. rushmore that It's more of a weekend trip for me (maybe this summer). Right now I need to see places that I only dream of.

Do it while you can. Someday you may have kids and a family and going off places becomes a lot harder to do. I definitely have to take a vacation this summer, I really haven't been on one is so long and I'm itching to get away.

My Uncle is doing a trip just like yours in 2 weeks. He is shipping one of his '67 Vette's out to my place, flying out here, and then starting in Chicago to California on a 17 day trip on Route 66. It sounds like you will have a lot of pictures and good times.

The Kadillac Ranch is cool and the Hover Dam is awesome, I only drove by the arch at night but I bet it would be worth checking out! Sounds like an awesome road trip.
